Mission

The Joint Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory (JADL) is located in Orlando, Florida. JADL’s mission is to enable the DoD Components’ education and training communities and acquisition programs to realize the ADL vision. JADL serves as the ADL Initiative’s organization for adopting and implementing ADL across DoD Component organizations. It operates under the direction of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). JADL:

  • Facilitates integrating and implementing ADL best practices to meet DoD Component training requirements.
  • Provides assistance to DoD Component acquisition programs to ensure understanding, benefits, and compliance with the ADL Initiative by:
    • Promoting and integrating DoD training policies and instructions.
    • Reviewing training documents for DoD Acquisition Category (ACAT) training programs to ensure compliance with DoD Instruction (DoDI) 1322.26.
  • Exploits proven learning technologies that provide value to DoD readiness by:
    • Identifying, researching, and synthesizing game and simulation initiatives to meet DoD Component requirements.
    • Supporting DoD Components to implement game technologies when appropriate.
    • Capturing pertinent metrics related to assessment and tracking of learner performance.
  • Focuses DoD ADL outreach efforts by supporting and managing ADL activities related to:
    • Defense ADL Action Team (DADLAT).
    • ADL ImplementationFest (IFest).
  • Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC)

Learning Technology Laboratory (LTL)

The LTL allows developers to test course content in a closed-network. This environment includes a variety of learning management systems (LMSs) that are currently used by the Military Services. LTL’s intent is to provide the opportunity to test for compliance and/or functionality of SCORM content. LTL welcomes government and/or contractors with content being developed for use by the government, and permits developers to use government-owned authoring tools to help in the development of assessments, graphics, etc.

To schedule an appointment, or to ask questions, please contact Mr. Kent Weeks at +1.407.384.5518 (DSN: 970.5518).

Training Technology Center

The Training Technology Center is a central location for testing, developing, and showcasing the newest innovations in Gaming and Virtual Worlds. The Center’s proximity to the Learning Technology Lab (LTL) makes it possible to easily explore the ability to integrate these technologies with the current field of LMS technologies. The Center has two main focus areas, the Game-based Training Testbed and the Virtual World Testbed, which are described below.

Game-based Training Testbed

The Game-based Training Testbed houses both high-end computers and the newest console systems, providing a perfect location for testing and experimenting with the newest game applications and development tools. The Testbed has a full suite of game software, including examples of current generation game-based training applications, commercial products that have been modified to build Serious Games, and modifiable games that could potentially be used in the development of future Game-based Training applications.

Virtual World Testbed

The Virtual World Testbed houses Virtual World technologies and platforms. The Virtual World Testbed is fully networked and capable of running any Virtual World software or servers for applications from low-fidelity browser-based solutions to fully immersive augmented reality-based applications of virtual worlds supported by our own virtual CAVE environment.  The Virtual World Testbed also supports ADL’s Second Life Island and JADL’s installation on the Team Orlando Island as part of the Military Coalition in Second Life.
