On the Horizon: SCORM Best Practices Guidelines

Over the last few years, ADL has received feedback from multiple communities of practice that the need exists for an updated set of SCORM Best Practices Guidelines (BPG). SCORM 2004 was designed to be flexible in meeting the needs of individual communities and projects. This flexibility, coupled with a purposeful lack of prescriptive design guidance in the SCORM Books, has resulted in the need for a set of best practices for applying SCORM to meet the needs of a range of communities and projects, accompanied by examples of successful implementations. These updated best practice guidelines will assist ISDs and content developers in applying the flexibility and tailoring capabilities within SCORM for their community or project, and help them achieve efficiencies and cost savings through content reuse.

ADL, through the funding of the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG), a program element under the Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO), and efforts of Intelligent Automation, Inc (IAI) is updating the guidelines. The updated guidelines should be ready for public distribution early September 2011.
