SCORM® Version 1.2

Released in October 2001, the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) Version 1.2 marked the end of the test and evaluation phase of new specifications. With SCORM Version 1.2 the ability to package instructional material and metadata for import and export was added. The content package is an integral piece for meeting one of the overall requirements of the SCORM - 'interoperability'. SCORM Version 1.2 incorporated the IMS Global Learning Consortium's Content Packaging Specification and expands it to include additional course structure capabilities. These XML-based specifications provide a crucial link between learning content repositories and learning management systems.

The initial requirements set for SCORM Version 1.2 were achieved and include the following improvements over SCORM Version 1.1:

Documentation Image The SCORM Version 1.2 Documentation is a collection and harmonization of specifications and standards that defines the interrelationship of content objects, data models and protocols such that objects are sharable across systems that conform to the same model.

SCORM Version 1.2 Conformance Test Suite Version 1.2.7 (Self Test)

Test Suite Image The SCORM Conformance Test Suite (Self Test) contains the conformance testing software, procedures and supporting documents for organizations to perform self-testing on LMSs, SCOs, Metadata XML documents and Content Packages.

SCORM Version 1.2 Sample Run-Time Environment (RTE) Version 1.2.2

RTE Image The SCORM Sample RTE describes the learning management system (LMS) requirements for managing the run-time environment (i.e., content launch process, standardized communication between content and LMSs, and standardized data model elements used for passing information relevant to the learner's experience with the content.
