Welcome Sweden!

January 12, 2018

In November 2017, the ADL Initiative welcomed the Swedish Partnership Center as the newest member of the ADL Global Partnership Network.

Senior leaders from the US Department of Defense and the Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) conducted a signing ceremony at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) on 27 November 2017. Mr. Charles (“Fred”) Drummond, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Education and Training in the US Office of the Secretary of Defense, and Major General Anders Callert, Assistant Chief of SAF Training and Development and Chief of Training, together executed the “Intent to Cooperate” agreement for their respective organizations.

Majors Tohmas Ax and Niclas Ljung currently lead the Swedish ADL office, which is part of the Military Academy in Halmstad. The office promotes and guides the implementation of ADL in individual and collective training and education for the Swedish Armed Forces. The Swedish ADL team works closely with both industry and military units to develop e-learning solutions based on a strong pedagogical foundation. They also advocate for blended learning solutions and are currently working towards integrating ADL into computer-aided and live exercises, including the upcoming VIKING ‘18 event, the largest recurring civil-military relations exercise in the world.

The Swedish ADL office participates in the Nordic Defence Cooperative (NORDEFCO) ADL Forum of Experts, a training and education body under the five-nation NORDEFCO organization, which includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway, in addition to Sweden. In 2017, the Swedish ADL team hosted the 5th annual NORDEFCO ADL conference in Halmstad, and the ADL Global Partnership Network held its yearly Interim Directors’ Meeting in conjunction with it. (The 2018 ADL Global Partnership Network will also coincide with the upcoming NORDEFCO ADL annual conference, scheduled for 9-12 April 2018 in Denmark.)

The ADL Global Partnership Network is a collection of government organizations and academic institutions working together to implement more effective, efficient, and interoperable technology-based learning. Partnership members gain access to the community’s software, specifications, science, and expertise. Members also have a unique opportunity to exchange the latest information and to broadly shape advanced distributed learning strategy across the world’s scientific and practitioner communities. The Swedish ADL office joins 12 other international defense organizations, as well as the US Office of Personnel Management and several US-based universities, in the Partnership Network.
