Mission

The DTEL team provides the MoD with a centralized resource for managing support and consultancy on existing and emerging learning technologies, and on their exploitation for learning.

The DTEL team administers the current Moodle-based Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for the MoD. This includes running courses on e-learning development and on exploiting VLEs for learning. The team is also responsible for writing policy, guidance, and support documentation on the use of learning technologies within MoD.

The DTEL team provides a MoD-focus for the coherence of learning technologies exploitation across the single Services, and acts as a Joint sponsor for research related to Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). It works closely with the Defence Simulation Centre that focuses on exploiting modelling and simulation.

Leadership

Squadron Leader Tom Brampton leads the Defence Technology Enhanced Learning (DTEL) Research and Development (R&D) Team based in the Development Faculty in the Defence Academy of the UK and is the current Director of the UK ADL Partnership Centre. Joining the Royal Air Force in 2001, Brampton spent several years as a Combat Ready Chinook Air Loadmaster before becoming a Royal Air Force Training and Education Specialist. This led to roles as Station Training Officer RAF Benson and manager of the Phase 2 Training Managers Course at RAF Cosford. Brampton joined the Defence Academy in 2020, leading the reestablished DTEL R&D Team, driving TEL coherency and innovation across Defence.
